The Clatsop County Democrats have not taken a position on Measures this election, but for your information here are the recommendationsfrom the Democratic Party of Oregon.

The Democratic Party of Oregon recommends a YES vote on the following two measures:

Measure 116: Establishing the Independent Public Service Compensation Commission

Voting Yes on 116 supports creating an independent commission that sets the pay for statewide elected officials, including state legislators, the Governor, the Secretary of State, the State Treasurer, the Attorney General, Oregon Supreme Court judges, and others. Nationwide, 22 states have established independent commissions to make salary decisions fair and impartial.

Measure 119: The Unionization of Cannabis Workers Initiative

Voting Yes on 119 supports requiring cannabis businesses to submit to the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission a signed labor peace agreement requiring the business to remain neutral when labor organizations communicate with employees about collective bargaining rights with its licensure or renewal application.

June 5: First day City to file declaration of candidacy or nominating petition for local offices.

July 18: First day for Soil & Water Conservation District candidates to file declaration of candidacy or nominating petition.

August 27: Last day to file declaration of candidacy or nominating petition for local offices. Last day for Soil & Water Conservation District candidates to file declaration of candidacy, nominating petition or withdraw.

August 29: Last day for candidates, who files candidacy with county clerk, to file statements for county voters’ pamphlet.

September 9: Last day for candidate, who filed with governing body other than county clerk, to file statement for county voters’ pamphlet. Last day for filing measure arguments for county voters’ pamphlet.

October 15: Last day to register to vote or change party affiliation. Registration cards that are postmarked by this date or submitted online no later than 11:59 PM are valid registration.

October 16-22: Official ballots mailed.

November 5: GENERAL ELECTION DAY: The Clatsop County Clerk’s Office will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Ballots must be delivered to the County Clerk’s Office, 820 Exchange Street, 2nd floor, Astoria no later than 8:00 p.m. on this date.  Ballots that are mailed must be postmarked by election day.

November 12: Last day to receive valid postmarked ballots by mail.
