The following categories of concern focus on all residents of Clatsop County, including but not limited to those of all races, ages, genders, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, immigration status, or homelessness condition.
Health begins with a healthy environment, which includes our rivers, ocean, forests and air. Health as a basic human right with health care for all, ensuring a higher quality of life for our residents. Health means providing support for those facing issues like substance abuse, domestic violence, mental health challenges and care for seniors and children. Health also means building our sustainable community through living-wage jobs, affordable housing and people-centered economic development.
Safe for all residents, regardless of racial, sexual identity, economic or citizenship status. Safe from fear of natural or industrial disaster and protected through the emergency response arising from those events. Safe from environmental harm caused by polluted, mismanaged or neglected resources. Safe homes and jobs to secure economic prosperity. Safe for those touched by the unacceptable behavior of others, as well as those struggling with their own habits and afflictions.
Just outcomes for all residents of Clatsop County – regardless of class, race, or gender – to have diverse, equitable and inclusive access to housing, food, jobs, education, health care, criminal justice, emergency and social support services. Just treatment for the less fortunate, marginalized, veterans, LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities.
Caring in the creation and enhancement of community services for compassionate purposes. Caring in formation of relationships to provide safety nets for those in need. Caring by acknowledging and acting on issues like homelessness, addiction and immigration as human conditions, not failures or criminal behaviors.
Opportunity to participate fully in the economy so all Clatsop County residents may lead prosperous and healthy lives. Opportunity to experience equality in education, healthcare and treatment under the law. Opportunity to participate in every level of government, with open interaction between public officials and their constituents, and with free and fair elections. Opportunity to live in an area where growth and development positively impact the ability of future residents to enjoy their own free and prosperous lives.
